MG Majestor First Look: Bigger, Wider Gloster Facelift With Triple Diff Locks
Table of Contents
The MG Majestor is basically the facelifted version of the Gloster. In some markets, this SUV also appears as the Maxus D90 or LDV D90. MG has now reworked the design, added new features, and repositioned it as a direct rival to the Toyota Fortuner.
This new version focuses on size, features, and off-road hardware. The engine remains largely the same, but the feature list has grown and the design has changed to make it look more imposing.
What Exactly Is the MG Majestor?
The Majestor is a body-on-frame three-row SUV. It sits on the same platform as the Gloster, but with visual changes and more features.
Key points:
Essentially a Gloster facelift with a new name
Body-on-frame construction
Full-size alloy spare wheel
Dual exhaust setup
Designed as a Fortuner rival
MG also demonstrated the SUV’s water-wading capability by parking it in water. The rated water-wading depth stands at 810 mm.
Engine and Drivetrain
The engine lineup has been simplified.
Earlier Gloster setup:
Single turbo diesel for rear-wheel drive variants
Twin turbo diesel for four-wheel drive variants
New Majestor setup:
Twin turbo diesel for all variants
Engine specs (as shown)
Power: 215 hp
Torque: 478 Nm
Body-on-frame with transfer case
Three differential locks
The SUV gets:
Center differential lock
Rear differential lock
Front differential lock
This is a serious off-road hardware setup. Very few SUVs in this segment offer triple diff locks.

Off-Road Capability
MG claims strong off-road credentials. The Majestor offers:
10 off-road modes
2H, 4H, and Auto modes
Automatic engagement of low range when center diff is locked
Hill descent control
Electronic traction systems
Ground clearance is 219 mm, which is decent for a large ladder-frame SUV.
Dimensions and Size
MG has increased the overall size compared to the Gloster.
Size changes over Gloster
Width: +90 mm
Length: +61 mm
Height: +9 mm
Overall dimensions
Length: almost 5.1 metres
Wheelbase: nearly 3 metres
The SUV is now:
Longer than the Fortuner
Wider than the Fortuner

Major design changes focus on making the SUV look more aggressive and premium.
Key exterior features:
Larger piano black front grille

The SUV also offers:

Quick Pros and Cons
Pros
Massive road presence
Triple differential locks
Feature-loaded cabin
Twin-turbo diesel standard
Bigger than key rivals
Cons
Too much reliance on touchscreen controls
Under-thigh support in rear seats is weak
Brand perception still trails Toyota in this segment
MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner: Reality Check
On paper, the Majestor clearly offers:
More features
Larger dimensions
More advanced off-road hardware
But the Fortuner still wins on:
Proven reliability image
Strong resale value
Brand trust in the ladder-frame SUV segment
That is why many buyers still lean toward the Toyota, even after being impressed by the MG.
