This Mercedes AMG One Needed $44,000 Maintenance After Just 115 Miles
Table of Contents
The Mercedes-AMG One is one of the wildest road cars ever built. It uses real Formula 1 technology, makes over 1,000 horsepower, and costs around $2.7 million. But owning one clearly comes with another level of expense.
One AMG One recently appeared in an RM Sotheby’s auction listing, and the details surprised even hardcore hypercar fans. Despite showing only 115 miles on the odometer, the car already received factory recommended “Service A” maintenance costing 37,610.15 euros, or roughly $44,000.
Most of that mileage reportedly came from factory testing.

Why Did The Mercedes AMG One Need $44,000 Service?
According to the auction paperwork, Mercedes completed the maintenance work in February 2026. The invoice shows that labor alone accounted for a huge portion of the bill.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the costs:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Labor for 80 hours | Around $37,000 |
| Air filter | $2,190 |
| Transmission oil filter | $2,195 |
| Engine oil | $650 |
| Oil drain plug | $176 |
The labor rate reportedly sat at around $463 per hour.
That sounds insane for a nearly new car, but the AMG One is not a normal supercar. Mercedes treats it more like a race car with a license plate.
The upside is that the service also extended the vehicle warranty until 2028.
The AMG One Is Basically A Formula 1 Car For The Road
The AMG One uses technology directly inspired by the championship winning Mercedes Formula 1 program. Its heart is a 1.6 liter turbocharged V6 hybrid engine derived from the Mercedes W06 Hybrid Formula 1 car driven by Lewis Hamilton during the 2015 season.
Mercedes paired that engine with four electric motors and an 8.4 kWh battery pack.
Performance numbers still sound unreal:
- 1,063 horsepower combined
- 489 horsepower from electric motors alone
- 0 to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds
- Top speed of 218 mph
Despite weighing around 3,737 pounds, the hybrid setup gives the AMG One brutal acceleration and insane cornering ability.
Nürburgring Record Proved What The AMG One Can Do
In 2024, the AMG One became the first production road legal car to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in under 6 minutes and 30 seconds.
Maro Engel set a lap time of 6:29.09 using the car’s aggressive “Strat 2” drive mode. That mode takes inspiration directly from Mercedes Formula 1 qualifying setups.
For context, that lap time puts the AMG One in territory normally reserved for full race cars.
Reliability Problems Have Followed The AMG One
The AMG One’s development process was already difficult long before customers started taking delivery. Mercedes spent years trying to make a high revving Formula 1 hybrid engine survive normal road use.
That challenge still shows today.
Mercedes previously issued a recall after reports that incorrectly installed hydraulic system components could leak flammable fluid near the active rear wing system. Two AMG One hypercars were reportedly destroyed in separate fire incidents.
The car’s advanced hydraulic aero system controls multiple adjustable aerodynamic parts, including the rear wing. It adds massive performance, but also adds another layer of complexity.
The Mercedes AMG One Is Incredible, But Ownership Looks Brutal
The AMG One delivers something no other production car truly offers. It feels like a genuine Formula 1 machine adapted for public roads.
But stories like this $44,000 maintenance bill show the reality of owning one.
This is not the type of hypercar you casually drive and forget about. The AMG One demands constant attention, specialist servicing, and extremely deep pockets. Even basic maintenance feels closer to maintaining a motorsport program than owning a luxury car.
Still, for collectors chasing the closest thing to a modern Formula 1 car with number plates, the AMG One remains unmatched.
