New Maruti Electric Car Spied Ahead Of Launch, Could Be Upcoming YMC EV
Table of Contents
Maruti Suzuki seems to be working on another new SUV, and this one could turn out to be bigger and more practical than the current electric lineup. Fresh spy shots of a heavily camouflaged test mule have now surfaced online, showing much more detail than before. The vehicle was earlier spotted in the background during Brezza facelift testing, but the latest images reveal its front design, side profile, rear styling, and even a small glimpse of the cabin.
At this point, Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed anything officially. However, the proportions and overall design strongly hint towards an electric SUV, possibly the upcoming YMC EV.

What Is This New Maruti Test Mule?
The strongest possibility right now is that this is the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YMC electric SUV. Reports suggest the YMC could arrive as a three row electric SUV, while a five seat version may also be offered.
Interestingly, this particular test vehicle appears to have a rear parcel tray, which usually points towards a five seat layout instead of a full three row setup.
The SUV also looks noticeably larger than the upcoming eVitara. From the proportions alone, it seems designed to target family buyers looking for more space and practicality.

Shared Platform With eVitara?
The upcoming YMC EV is expected to use the same Heartect e or 27PL architecture that underpins the eVitara. A few visible details from the spy shots support this theory.
Some key observations include:
| Visible Detail | What It Suggests |
|---|---|
| 18 inch alloy wheels | Similar setup seen on eVitara |
| No visible exhaust | Strong EV possibility |
| SUV stance and flat floor proportions | Electric vehicle packaging |
| Similar wheel arch design | Shared design language with eVitara and Grand Vitara |
The alloy wheel design also looks quite similar to eVitara test mules seen earlier. Tyres could be around the 225 section range based on the proportions.
Front Design Looks Inspired By Victoris
The front fascia appears to borrow several cues from the new Victoris SUV.
Things that stand out include:
- Conventional headlamp setup
- LED DRL signature similar to Victoris
- Slim upper grille design
- Chunkier lower bumper section
- Large air intake area
However, the lower grille and bumper treatment look different enough to give this SUV its own identity.
Even under camouflage, the SUV has a more upright and squared off appearance compared to Grand Vitara.
Side Profile Gives Away A Few More Details
From the side, the front doors appear similar to current Maruti Suzuki SUVs. The rear door design, however, looks unique.
Other noticeable elements include:
- Conventional door handles
- Standard handle positioning
- Thick wheel arch cladding
- Squared SUV proportions
- Large glass area
The wheel arches have a trapezoidal design, something already seen on Grand Vitara, eVitara, and Victoris.
One small but interesting detail is the use of UV cut glass. Earlier, this feature was mostly associated with Nexa products, but Maruti has started expanding it across newer models.
Rear Design Looks Completely New
The rear section gives this SUV a distinct identity.
Spy shots reveal:
- Connected LED tail lamp setup
- Unique LED lighting signature
- Horizontal bumper reflectors
- Shark fin antenna
- Upright tailgate design
The rear styling actually looks cleaner and more modern than some current Maruti SUVs. It also gives off strong global EV design vibes.
Could It Be Grand Vitara Facelift Instead?
There is another possibility here.
The rear left side fuel filler cap suggests this SUV may not be a full EV after all. That has raised speculation about a possible Grand Vitara facelift.
If that turns out to be true, the updated Grand Vitara could borrow features from Victoris, including:
- ADAS package
- 10.2 inch infotainment screen
- Fully digital TFT instrument cluster
However, this particular test vehicle did not seem to have a powered tailgate, which is available on Victoris.
So for now, the EV theory still feels stronger.
Plug In Hybrid Possibility Also Exists
There is also a small chance this could be a plug in hybrid SUV.
With more brands preparing strong hybrid and PHEV products for India, Maruti Suzuki may also be exploring that route. Especially as competition in the electrified SUV segment is growing quickly.
Still, there is no solid confirmation yet regarding a hybrid powertrain.
One Thing Is Clear, It Is Not The New Ertiga
Some people online speculated whether this could be the next Ertiga facelift. That seems unlikely.
The Ertiga recently received notable rear sheet metal updates, and a major facelift is not expected anytime soon.
Also, the proportions of this test mule look much more SUV focused than MPV oriented.
What To Expect
Right now, Maruti Suzuki is clearly testing something important. Whether this turns out to be the YMC electric SUV, a heavily updated Grand Vitara, or even a plug in hybrid product, the company seems ready to expand its premium SUV lineup further.
Considering how aggressively the Indian EV market is growing, a larger family focused electric SUV from Maruti Suzuki actually makes a lot of sense.
More details should surface in the coming months as testing continues.
