New Honda City Facelift Gets Sportier RS Variant In Thailand
The updated Honda City facelift has officially made its debut in Thailand, and this time the lineup gets a sportier RS variant as well. Honda has updated both the sedan and hatchback versions with revised styling, new variant options, and the brand’s e:HEV hybrid technology.
The launch comes shortly after the India spec Honda City facelift entered the market with a starting price of Rs 12 lakh. Thailand now becomes one of the next major markets to receive the updated model as part of Honda’s global rollout strategy.
According to Honda Thailand, pre bookings for the new City facelift are already open. Official bookings will begin in July 2026, while customer deliveries are expected to start by August 2026.

Honda City Facelift Thailand Variant Lineup
Honda has revised the complete City range for Thailand. Buyers will get four variants across the sedan and hatchback lineup.
Variants Available In Thailand
| Variant | Powertrain |
|---|---|
| S | 1.0 litre turbo petrol |
| e:HEV V | Hybrid |
| e:HEV SV | Hybrid |
| e:HEV RS | Hybrid |
The biggest talking point here is the RS variant, which adds a sportier appearance package along with hybrid power.
In India, Honda currently offers the hybrid e:HEV setup only with the top spec City variant. Thailand gets a wider hybrid lineup, which honestly makes more sense for buyers looking for better fuel efficiency.
Engine Options And Performance
The Thailand spec Honda City facelift gets two different powertrain choices depending on the variant.
1.0 Litre Turbo Petrol Engine
The base S variant uses a 1.0 litre inline three VTEC turbo petrol engine.
| Engine | Power | Torque | Transmission |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.0L Turbo Petrol | 122 PS | 173 Nm | CVT |
This small turbo engine produces slightly more torque than the naturally aspirated petrol engine offered in India. That extra torque should help during city driving and quick overtakes.
For comparison, the India spec non hybrid Honda City facelift uses a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 121 PS and 145 Nm. Buyers can choose between a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed CVT automatic.
Interestingly, markets like Malaysia continue to use the same 1.5 litre NA petrol engine seen in India.
Honda City e:HEV Hybrid System
The hybrid variants use Honda’s Intelligent Multi Mode Drive system, also known as i MMD.
Hybrid System Output
| Component | Output |
|---|---|
| Electric Motor | 109 PS |
| Electric Motor Torque | 253 Nm |
| Petrol Engine | 98 PS |
| Petrol Engine Torque | 127 Nm |
The setup uses a 1.5 litre Atkinson cycle four cylinder DOHC i VTEC petrol engine paired with an electric motor and lithium ion battery pack.
Honda says the petrol engine mainly works as a generator to charge the battery. However, it can directly power the wheels when required at higher speeds.
The hybrid system supports:
- EV Drive Mode
- Hybrid Drive Mode
- Engine Drive Mode
That flexibility is one reason why the City e:HEV has become popular among buyers who want strong fuel economy without switching to a full EV.
Also, 253 Nm torque from the electric motor is actually quite healthy for a midsize sedan. That instant torque delivery usually makes hybrids feel smoother in traffic compared to regular petrol cars.
Exterior Design Updates
Most design changes on the Thailand spec City facelift remain similar to the India spec model.
The e:HEV RS variant looks closest to the Indian version, although Thailand gets exclusive RS badging.
Exterior Highlights
- Blade Eye bi LED headlamps
- Segmented LED DRLs with turn indicator function
- Honeycomb pattern front grille
- Redesigned front bumper
- Full width LED light bar
- New rear bumper with mesh detailing
- Sporty alloy wheel design on RS variant
The tail lamp design appears mostly unchanged from the older model.
The RS trim definitely adds a sharper road presence without making the City look overdone. Honda has kept the design clean instead of turning it into a fake sports sedan with unnecessary vents everywhere. That is probably a good thing.
Interior And Features
Inside, the new Honda City facelift continues with a familiar cabin layout, but feature updates remain an important part of the package.
One major feature confirmed for Thailand is the Honda SENSING ADAS suite.
Honda SENSING Features
- Adaptive cruise control
- Collision mitigation braking
- Lane keeping assist
- Road departure mitigation
- Auto high beam
Some India specific features like front ventilated seats are still unconfirmed for the Thai market.
Honda City Facelift India Vs Thailand
Here is a quick comparison between the India and Thailand spec models.
| Feature | India | Thailand |
|---|---|---|
| Base Petrol Engine | 1.5L NA Petrol | 1.0L Turbo Petrol |
| Hybrid Availability | Top variant only | Multiple variants |
| RS Variant | No | Yes |
| Manual Gearbox | Yes | No |
| ADAS | Yes | Yes |
Thailand buyers clearly get more hybrid options and the sporty RS trim, while Indian buyers still benefit from a manual gearbox option.
Expected Market Impact
The Honda City continues to remain an important model globally for Honda, especially in Asian markets.
With stricter emission norms and growing demand for fuel efficient cars, the wider availability of hybrid variants could help Honda strengthen the City lineup further in Thailand.
At the same time, the addition of the RS variant gives younger buyers something slightly more exciting without changing the City’s core identity as a practical sedan.
