2026 Toyota Yaris Cross Debuts in Europe

Subtle design update, new GR Sport trim, same trusted hybrid setup
Toyota has given the Yaris Cross another update for 2026. Nothing dramatic. No big mechanical overhaul. Just the kind of changes buyers in Europe actually care about.
And that makes sense. The Yaris Cross is already doing very well. In 2025 alone, Toyota sold around 200,000 units in Europe. That makes it one of the brand’s strongest performers in the region.
This update builds on the 2024 refresh. It focuses more on design, trim upgrades, and small usability improvements rather than reinventing the car.
What’s new in the 2026 Yaris Cross
Toyota now offers four trims:
- Mid
- Mid+
- High
- GR Sport
The biggest visible change sits right at the front.
The grille now gets a honeycomb pattern and is finished in body colour. It sounds simple, but it changes the look quite a bit. The SUV feels cleaner and more modern, without losing its slightly rugged character.
You still get:
- Blacked-out bumper
- Chunky wheel arches
- Thick body cladding
So yes, it still looks like a proper small SUV, not a soft crossover pretending to be one.
LED headlamps are standard now, with integrated DRLs. Higher trims also bring updated lighting tech, including more advanced beam control.

Wheels and colours
Wheel options depend on the trim:
- 17-inch alloys with Mid+
- 18-inch alloys with High and GR Sport
Toyota has added two new colours:
- Precious Bronze
- Celestite Grey
Celestite Grey replaces the older Shimmering Silver. The Bronze shade looks more interesting, especially with the contrasting black roof and pillars.
Interior changes that actually matter
Inside, the changes are small but noticeable.
Toyota has added a platinum coloured trim across the dashboard and doors. It lifts the cabin slightly. Not luxury, but not basic either.
Mid+ trim now gets sportier front seats. Earlier, this was limited to higher trims. These seats offer:
- Better lateral support
- Improved comfort on longer drives
The seats also come with platinum inserts and three-tone stitching, which ties in nicely with the new interior theme.

Sustainability angle with SakuraTouch®
The High trim introduces a partial leather setup using SakuraTouch® material.
This is not just marketing fluff. The material combines:
- Waste cork
- Plant-based PVC
- Recycled PET
Toyota claims this reduces CO2 emissions by about 95 percent compared to traditional leather production.
It also gets contrasting accents on the shoulders and bolsters, which adds a bit of visual interest.
Feature updates
Some practical upgrades have been added across trims:
- Ambient lighting from Mid+ onwards
- Wireless charging
- Powered tailgate (standard on High)
- Auto-retracting ORVMs (standard on all variants)
These are small touches, but they improve daily usability.
GR Sport trim gets more serious
The GR Sport variant is not just cosmetic anymore. It still isn’t a full performance model, but Toyota has made it feel more distinct.
Exterior changes:
- Sportier front bumper
- Aerodynamic side elements
- Exclusive 18-inch machined alloys
Interior changes:
- Suede sports seats
- Grey upholstery with red stitching
- GR badging on steering and headrests
- Gunmetal trim inserts
It looks sharper inside and out. Still practical, but with a bit more attitude.
The GR Sport is only available in front-wheel drive.
Powertrain remains unchanged
Toyota has kept the same hybrid options.
Hybrid 115
- 116 hp
- 141 Nm
- Available only with base Mid trim
- Front-wheel drive only
Hybrid 130
- 130 hp
- 185 Nm
- Available on higher trims
- Comes with FWD and AWD-i options
The AWD-i system uses an additional electric motor on the rear axle. No mechanical connection, but it works well for light traction needs.
Performance remains similar to before. The 130 hp version feels more responsive, especially in city driving and overtakes.

Size and practicality
The Yaris Cross remains a compact SUV:
- Length: around 4.18 metres
Boot space depends on drivetrain:
- Around 320 litres with AWD
- Up to 400 litres with FWD
Rear seat space is usable, not generous. This is still a small SUV at the end of the day. Good for city use, fine for occasional family trips.

Pricing and positioning
Pricing is expected to stay close to the current range:
- Entry level: around €28,000
- Fully loaded: close to €40,000
That keeps it competitive in Europe’s crowded small SUV market.
Final thoughts
This update is exactly what it needed to be.
No unnecessary changes. No overcomplication. Just:
- Cleaner design
- Better materials
- More features where they matter
The Toyota Yaris Cross was already a strong product. This refresh just makes it easier to keep selling in big numbers.
If anything, it shows how Toyota is playing it safe. And in this segment, safe usually works.
