Dodge Copperhead Could Become The Brand’s Next Big Performance Car
Table of Contents
Dodge appears to be working on a new halo sports car, and this time the company may bring back another snake inspired name. The upcoming model will reportedly be called the Copperhead, and early details suggest it could take inspiration from the legendary Viper while using modern Dodge architecture.
According to a recent report from Car and Driver, Stellantis showed early previews of future products as part of its long term roadmap. Dodge was among the brands highlighted, and one of the biggest surprises was the mention of a new performance flagship with an SRT version.

Dodge Copperhead May Be Based On The New Charger
The report describes the car as long, low, and sleek. That already sounds familiar to anyone who remembers the Viper era. However, this new model may not ride on a completely unique platform.
Early information points toward the Dodge Charger platform serving as the base for the Copperhead. Even so, the design reportedly looks far more aggressive than a regular Charger.
Some of the styling details mentioned include:
- Large hood bulge
- Functional S duct on the hood
- Multiple hood vents
- Rear brake cooling vents
- Massive rear wing
- Performance focused body design
The rear section also reportedly features visible exhaust tips, strongly hinting at an internal combustion engine under the hood.
V8 Power Still Looks Likely
Dodge has not confirmed engine details yet, but it would be hard to imagine a halo Dodge sports car without serious power.
At this stage, a V8 engine seems very likely. Dodge buyers still connect the brand with loud exhaust notes, straight line performance, and muscle car attitude. Stellantis leadership also appears to understand that.
There is also speculation that Dodge could offer multiple powertrain options. The recently discussed Ram Rumble Bee performance truck showed that Stellantis may continue mixing traditional combustion performance with newer technology choices.
Still, Dodge has not officially confirmed anything regarding the Copperhead’s engine lineup.
The Copperhead Name Is Not New
Interestingly, Dodge has used the Copperhead name before.
Back in the 1990s, Dodge revealed the Copperhead concept car as a smaller and more affordable sports car positioned below the Viper. The concept never reached production, but the name remained memorable among enthusiasts.
This time, Dodge may pair the name with a Viper style snake badge to strengthen the connection with the brand’s performance history.
Stellantis Plans Big Product Expansion
Stellantis recently announced an aggressive future product strategy that includes more than 100 new or refreshed vehicles across its brands.
For Dodge, this could mark an important shift back toward dedicated performance vehicles after uncertainty around the brand’s future direction over the last few years.
A proper halo sports car would help Dodge rebuild excitement among enthusiasts, especially in the American market where V8 powered performance cars still attract strong attention.
Why The Copperhead Matters
The Dodge Viper built its reputation by being raw, loud, and unapologetically powerful. Many enthusiasts feared Dodge had moved away from that identity.
The Copperhead could change that.
If Dodge actually delivers a sleek sports car with aggressive styling, proper performance hardware, and V8 power, it could become one of the brand’s most important modern launches.
For now, official specifications remain limited, but the early details already have muscle car fans paying attention.
