Volkswagen Shows the New Amarok Alongside the Tukan
Volkswagen used Brazil’s famous Barretos rodeo festival to put its growing pickup truck plans on display.
The company revealed the new Tukan pickup and also brought out the next generation Amarok, although the larger truck remained covered in camouflage. The two pickups are part of Volkswagen’s broader effort to strengthen its position in the South American pickup market.
The Tukan will sit below the Amarok. It is a smaller pickup developed for Brazil and is scheduled to reach the market in the first half of 2027. Volkswagen has shown it in single cab and double cab versions.

The New Volkswagen Amarok Will Be Electrified
Volkswagen has confirmed two important things about the next generation Amarok.

Volkswagen has already confirmed that the new South American Amarok will be produced at its General Pacheco plant in Argentina from 2027.
The company announced an investment of around $580 million for the project and said the truck is being developed specifically for the South American market.

Could a U.S. Spec Amarok Compete With the Toyota Tacoma?
If Volkswagen ever brings a midsize pickup to the U.S., it would enter a tough segment.
The Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado, Nissan Frontier and GMC Canyon already give buyers plenty of options. A Volkswagen truck would need to offer something different.
