Honda Prologue Electric SUV Discontinued After 2026, Honda Exits US EV Market in 2027
Table of Contents
Honda has officially confirmed that the Honda Prologue electric SUV will be discontinued after the 2026 model year. The decision brings an early end to Honda’s first mass market electric SUV in the United States, just three years after it entered the market in 2024.
The move also means Honda will have no fully electric vehicle on sale in the United States from the 2027 model year, following the cancellation of its upcoming 0 Series electric models earlier this year.

Honda Confirms End of Prologue Production
Honda has confirmed that sales of the Prologue will conclude later this year after the 2026 model year.
A Honda spokesperson said:
Honda will conclude sales of Prologue later this year following completion of the 2026 model year. Prologue customers will continue to receive full support through our dealer network, including service, parts, and warranty coverage.
Existing owners will continue to receive:
- Dealer service support
- Genuine replacement parts
- Warranty coverage
So while the SUV is going away, customer support will continue as normal.
Honda Prologue Sales Started Strong
The Honda Prologue was introduced for the 2024 model year and, despite a slower EV market, managed respectable sales during its short life.
Honda Prologue US Sales
| Year | Units Sold |
|---|---|
| 2024 | 33,017 |
| 2025 | 39,194 |
| First Half 2026 | 8,407 |
| Total So Far | Over 80,000 |
The Prologue had already recorded 36,553 sales by the end of the third quarter of 2025, but sales slowed sharply after the federal EV tax credit was removed in the United States.
Sales Fell Nearly 50 Percent in 2026
The biggest reason behind the Prologue’s early exit appears to be declining demand.
During the first half of 2026, Honda sold only 8,407 Prologue SUVs, representing a 49 percent drop compared to the same period in 2025.
The removal of the federal EV tax credit significantly affected electric vehicle sales across the market, and the Prologue was among the models impacted.
Even though production is ending, unsold vehicles are still available at dealerships and will continue to be sold over the coming months.
Built With General Motors Technology
The Honda Prologue was not developed entirely by Honda.
Instead, it was created through Honda’s partnership with General Motors and shares its platform and technology with the Chevrolet Blazer EV.
The same collaboration also produced the Acura ZDX, which is also expected to have a short production run.
Key Highlights
- Based on the Chevrolet Blazer EV platform
- Developed through Honda’s partnership with General Motors
- Introduced for the 2024 model year
- Production ends after the 2026 model year
- More than 80,000 units sold in the United States
Honda's Original EV Plan Has Changed
Earlier in 2026, Honda planned to launch two new electric vehicles built on its own platform in Ohio:
- Honda 0 Series SUV
- Honda 0 Series Saloon
These models were expected to replace the GM based Prologue and mark the beginning of Honda’s next generation EV lineup.
However, Honda has since canceled the 0 Series program. As a result, there will be no direct replacement for the Prologue.
Without the Prologue or the canceled 0 Series models, Honda will no longer offer a fully electric vehicle in the United States from the 2027 model year.
What This Means for Honda
The Prologue had a relatively successful start considering the slower growth of the American EV market. Selling more than 80,000 units in roughly three years is a respectable result, but changing market conditions and falling demand have altered Honda’s plans.
Honda’s decision leaves the company without a battery electric vehicle in the US for the time being. Whether Honda returns with a new electric model in the coming years remains to be seen.
Conclusion
Honda is ending the Prologue after the 2026 model year, bringing its first modern electric SUV to an earlier than expected conclusion. Built on General Motors technology, the Prologue managed over 80,000 sales in the United States before declining demand and changes in Honda’s EV strategy brought the program to an end.
For existing owners, Honda says service, warranty, and parts support will continue through its dealer network. Meanwhile, Honda’s EV future in the United States remains uncertain after the cancellation of its next generation 0 Series electric vehicles.
