Production-spec Tata Sierra revealed
The Tata Sierra has finally been unveiled, bringing back an iconic nameplate that originally came in 1991. Earlier, Tata had the Safari Storme and then the updated Safari, which came only with a diesel engine and without a proper 4×4 system. But now, the brand has introduced the all-new Tata Sierra, a modern and much more advanced version that fixes all major issues Tata needed to address such as fit and finish, older engine refinement problems, and overall quality.
The new Sierra will get both a 1.5L petrol engine and a diesel engine option, and Tata has confirmed that an EV version will also come later. The car makes a strong statement in the mid-size SUV segment and, according to early estimates, its price may start from around ₹13 lakh, placing it below the Harrier but above the Curvv.
Compared to the Hyundai Creta, the Tata Sierra looks more premium, more spacious, and richer in features. In terms of looks, dimensions, comfort, and features, Tata has worked extensively to make the Sierra feel complete and highly competitive.
Engine Options: Petrol, Diesel & EV Incoming
Under the hood, Tata will offer:
1.5L Turbo Petrol
1.5L Diesel
Tata Sierra EV coming in the future
It is possible Tata may also introduce AWD at a competitive price later. The ICE Sierra looks like it will create a new sub-segment between Creta-size and Harrier-size SUVs.
Expected Price & Launch Timeline
Expected starting price: ₹13 lakh (ex-showroom)
Positioned between Tata Curvv and Tata Harrier
Full pricing and specs to be revealed on 25th November
Media test drives expected in early December
Exterior Design: A Proper SUV Stance With Sierra DNA
The new Sierra stands tall. Its height feels more than the Creta, the bonnet is larger, and the straight-line design makes it look like a proper SUV. Tata has retained many nostalgic elements while giving it a futuristic twist.
Front Design
A black rectangular treatment inspired by the original Sierra’s signature rectangular grille and lamps
Sierra lettering placed neatly, not loud or oversized
LED setup: full-width connecting DRLs, LED headlamps, LED indicators, LED fog lamps
Large and functional air intakes (ICE version)
360° camera and Level 2 ADAS
Side Profile
One of the most iconic elements, the wrapover glass effect is recreated by masking (structural safety no longer permits full glass)
A thick B-pillar, a design detail preserved as a tribute, originally insisted on by Mr. Ratan Tata
19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, MRF 255 R19 mud + snow tyres
Disc brakes at both front and rear
Piano black surround instead of rough cladding
Manual door handles (not flush), and no request sensor on passenger side
Panoramic sunroof, one of the largest in the segment
Cameras under ORVMs, auto-folding mirrors with indicators
Rear Design
A clean, straight, upright SUV design
Full-width LED tail lamps
Electrically operated tailgate
Sierra badging finished neatly
Two rear parking sensors (no side sensors)
Spare wheel mounted underneath
Good boot space, more than 433 litres, with parcel tray, 12V socket, and tool kit
JBL subwoofer integrated inside
Ground clearance looks roughly around 200 mm visually. Even with five passengers, the suspension does not sag. The “four fingers gap” still remains. From all angles, the Sierra looks premium, modern, and extremely clean in design.
