2026 Nissan Sentra SR
Ninth Generation Model – Bolder Design, More Tech, Same Powertrain
For more than four decades, the Nissan Sentra has been one of the most important products in Nissan’s North American lineup. When the current eighth generation debuted in 2020, it became one of the standout compact sedans in its segment. For 2026, Nissan introduces the all new ninth generation Sentra with a sharper exterior, a heavily updated interior, and best in class technology.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood, Nissan made no changes. The 2026 Sentra continues with the familiar:
2.0 L DOHC direct injection 4 cylinder (MR20DD)
Power: 149 hp
Torque: 146 lb ft
Transmission: latest electronic CVT (front wheel drive only)
While refined and reliable, this is a missed opportunity. A turbo or hybrid would have helped improve performance and fuel economy. Nissan is working on hybrid systems, but has not confirmed anything yet.
Fuel Economy (EPA estimates):
City: 28 mpg
Highway: 36 mpg
Combined: 32 mpg
SR and SL trims get slightly lower fuel economy because of larger 18 inch wheels. Fuel tank capacity is roughly 12 gallons, allowing about 390 miles of range on regular gasoline.
Nissan does not quote a 0 to 60 mph time, but the previous model completed it in just under eight seconds. During this drive, with brake torque applied, the Sentra recorded 9.8 seconds, better than previous runs without brake torque. Top speed is estimated at around 125 mph.
Curb weight for the SR trim is about 3100 lb.

Exterior Design
The new Sentra rides on the same platform as before, but the styling is significantly bolder.
Exclusive new color: Blue Stone, available on SR with contrasting black roof
Revised front fascia with digitized V Motion grille
The SR trim has gloss black and dark chrome accents
SL trim gets body colored grille elements for a more premium look
Full LED projector headlights are standard on all trims
LED DRLs and LED turn signals on SR and SL
No fog lights available
Dimensions:
Wheelbase: 105.6 in
Length: 183.3 in (about one inch longer than previous generation)
Width: 71.2 in
Structure stiffness improved by 6 percent
Wheels and Suspension:
SR trim gets exclusive 18 inch gloss black machined wheels (215/45 R18)
All independent suspension is standard across the lineup
Front brake rotors: 11 in
Rear brake rotors: 10 in
At the rear, the Sentra adopts a sportback inspired roofline with LED taillights. SR models add a black rear spoiler and a more aggressive diffuser with a chrome tipped exhaust.

Interior and Technology
Inside, the Sentra receives one of the biggest upgrades in the class.
Dual 12.3 inch displays (digital instrument cluster + touchscreen)
New Nissan Connect software
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Wireless phone charging pad (first time on Sentra)
Optional Bose 8 speaker audio system
The SR trim shown features tailor fit leatherette upholstery and Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats. These seats use memory foam padding and are standard across the lineup, even on cloth trims.
Interior highlights:
12 way driver power seat with four way lumbar support (SR Premium Package)
Three level heated seats
Heated steering wheel
Ambient lighting with 64 selectable colors
Traditional CVT shifter with drive mode selector (Eco, Standard, Sport)
Standard sized sunroof on premium package (no panoramic roof option)
Areas for improvement:
No ventilated seats
No memory seats
No built in navigation or Google integration
Only driver window is one touch
Rear seats lack vents and map pockets
Rear Seat Space
Rear legroom remains at 34.8 inches, which is usable but falls behind leaders like the Honda Civic and Kia K4 that offer three more inches. Headroom is reduced if the sunroof is equipped.
One USB C charging port is provided for rear passengers, but no heated rear seats or ventilation.
Cargo Capacity:
14.3 cubic feet
Rear seats fold 60/40
No temporary spare tire; fix a flat kit is standard

Driving Experience
Despite sharing the powertrain with the outgoing model, the Sentra feels more refined and responsive.
CVT simulates shifts and responds quickly to throttle inputs
Engine vibration and cabin noise are well controlled
Chassis rigidity is improved, contributing to better ride quality
Steering is quick and light, though body roll is noticeable during aggressive turns
On the highway, there is some road noise depending on pavement type, but overall refinement is improved.
Driver Assistance:
Nissan ProPILOT Assist available (with premium package)
Adaptive cruise control
Lane keep assist
Automatic emergency braking
Verdict
The 2026 Nissan Sentra is a meaningful update.
The styling is more striking, the interior is a major leap forward, and the technology is best in class.
However, without a hybrid or more efficient engine, the Sentra falls behind rivals on fuel economy and performance.
Who should consider it:
Buyers prioritizing design, comfort, and tech features
Drivers wanting a refined and well equipped sedan at a value price
What Nissan should add next:
Hybrid powertrain
Ventilated and memory seats
Larger panoramic roof option
If Nissan can introduce a hybrid option, the Sentra could become one of the strongest offerings in its segment.
